Georgia Man Arrested for Stealing Wallets at Speedways Across the Country

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- A man was caught on a cellphone video coming out of an RV at the Daytona International Speedway and then wiping the handle on the door. A few hours later he was in police custody. Steven Sanders is accused of stealing credit cards, watches, and wallets from speedways all over the country. One of thousands of victims include actor Patrick Dempsey who races in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. His racing ID was found in Sanders’ possession.

After the Secret Service searched Sanders’ home in Macon, Georgia, investigators found cash, watches, credit cards, Social Security cards, and $130,000 in unused gift cards. Investigators stated that Sanders kept a journal with an inventory of stolen goods. Sanders is in jail on a $80,000 bond and faces multiple charges, many more that are forthcoming from numerous states. According to police, Sanders could have more than a dozen agencies try to extradite him.
